The Death, Burial, and Resurrection of Jesus Christ

Posted by on Mar 28, 2010 in Salvation

Easter is one of my favorite holidays. It reminds us of the reason we have salvation- the gospel of Jesus Christ, his death, burial, and resurrection. The word ‘gospel’ means ‘good news’. This good news of the gospel is that Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected in order to provide salvation for us. Most teach about the good news but never tell what the good news is or why it is significant. Jesus died, was buried, and resurrected on the third day, but how is that good? How is his death burial and resurrection good news?

All the Fullness

Colossians 2:9 teaches that all the fullness of the Godhead dwells in Jesus bodily. Does this mean that all of God is in Jesus? What about God’s omnipresence? Does this mean that God did not live in heaven when Jesus was on Earth? Ephesians 3:19 says that Christians are filled with all the fullness of God. Is this the same as all the fullness of the Godhead dwelling in Jesus bodily? What is ‘all the fullness’ of the Godhead?

1 John 3:1-8

1 John 3:1-8 is an interesting passage. It is usually glossed over without stopping long enough to determine what the passage is about. It talks about the love the Father has given us. It talks about us being the sons of God. It talks about Jesus coming again.  Also mentions the law, defines sin, and that Jesus was manifest to take our sins away. There is one important point that most people don’t even notice: the passage starts talking about the Father, but never changes the subject. This passage reveals who the Father is.

Repentance

Before we can be baptized in water in Jesus’ name for the remission of sins, before we can be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues, we must first repent of our sins. Repentance is more than repeating a prayer. Repentance is more than admitting to being a sinner. Repentance is more than a simple command. Repentance is part of salvation.

Hair Length

Hair length in the Bible is simple: men, have short hair; women have uncut hair. But wait… what about Jesus? Samson had long hair. Doesn’t it say a woman should have a covering? Does that mean women have to wear a veil? It says if he be contentious we have no such custom. Doesn’t that mean it’s up to the husband?

Holiness of Dress

God expects His people to be a separated people. Holiness is not just inward- it is also outward. God expects His people to look holy. He expects His people to not look like the world. He expects His people to be a separated people. This includes our outward appearance. God gives us many guidelines of how He wants His people to dress. He also gives many examples of sinful dress and the results of sinful dress.
