Joh 1:3 KJV All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Joh 1:10 KJV He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

1Co 8:6 KJV But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

Eph 3:9 KJV And to make all men see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the world hath been hid in God, who created all things by Jesus Christ:

Col 1:12-17 KJV 12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light: 13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: 14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins: 15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Heb 1:1-2 KJV God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, <sup>2</sup> Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Heb 1:8-12 KJV But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. 9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. 10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands: 11 They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment; 12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.

Rev 4:8-11 KJV 8 And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come. 9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, 10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.

Rev 10:6 KJV And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:

Rev 14:6-7 KJV 6 And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people, 7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.

Rev 21:5-7 KJV 5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful. 6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Gen 1:26 KJV And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Gen 2:7 KJV And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

Gen 5:2 KJV Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.

Deu 4:32 KJV For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it?

Job 33:4 KJV The Spirit of God hath made me, and the breath of the Almighty hath given me life.

Psa 8:4-8 KJV 4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? 5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour. 6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet: 7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field; 8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

Psa 100:3 KJV Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Isa 51:13 KJV And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where is the fury of the oppressor?

Mal 2:10 KJV Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why do we deal treacherously every man against his brother, by profaning the covenant of our fathers?

Act 17:28 KJV For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

Gen 1:1 KJV In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

Exo 20:11 KJV For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Neh 9:6 KJV Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Job 12:7-9 KJV 7 But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: 8 Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. 9 Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this?

Job 26:7 KJV He stretcheth out the north over the empty place, and hangeth the earth upon nothing.

Psa 24:2 KJV For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods.

Psa 33:6 KJV By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

Psa 95:5 KJV The sea is his, and he made it: and his hands formed the dry land.

Psa 102:25 KJV Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.

Psa 104:5 KJV Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever.

Isa 40:28 KJV Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding.

Isa 45:12 KJV I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

Isa 48:13 KJV Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.

Act 4:24 KJV And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, thou art God, which hast made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is:

Act 7:50 KJV Hath not my hand made all these things?

Act 14:15 KJV And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:

Act 17:24 KJV God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

Heb 11:3 KJV Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.

The authors show why the universe and everything in it seem to be designed by answering the question, are the things of nature the product of mindless forces alone, or did creative reason play a role? They build an argument for intelligent design using science and logic in a way that is easy to follow and understand. They give many examples and analogies that make sense, giving the reader a solid foundation in the concepts of intelligent design.

The science in this book includes many references to other writings such as Michael Behe’s Darwin’s Black Box and Dembski’s own Design Inference, among many others. Scientific topics include problems with Darwinism, the laws of probability, and shows research by many scientists.

The logical arguments build on fallacious analogies that work really well to demonstrate the point. For example, someone seeing Mount Rushmore and coming to the conclusion that it is a natural phenomenon. Other examples used include The Grand Canyon and the shape of Mona Lisa painted into grass. These examples show logical conclusions of something that looks designed.

The book includes current research by design theorists that shows original research that tests claims of materialism and intelligent design.

The information is not bogged down with incomprehensible jargon. Instead, it is very readable, understandable, and memorable. It is a very easy book to recommend, both as an introduction and as a solid resource for intelligent design. Five out of five stars!

I would like to thank InterVarsity Press for this free review copy. My opinions are my own and I was not required to give a positive review.

The scriptures tell us that God created all things. We are the special creation of God. Some verses say Jesus created all things, while other verses say the Father is the creator of all things. Is this two ‘persons’ that are creating the universe together? Is this a contradiction? If this is not a contradiction in Scripture, then this brings us to this question: who is our Creator?

Creation is not the cooperative work of a group of ‘people’. The Scriptures are clear there is only one Creator- Jehovah our LORD.

Isaiah 37:16 O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

Isaiah 44:24 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself;

Isaiah 45:18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?

The Bible describes the one Creator as Jesus.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Colossians 1:16-17 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

Hebrews 1:10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

How is Jesus the Creator?

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, <sup>2</sup> Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

Notice this verse doesn’t say the Son created. It says that God created by the Son. This verse makes a distinction between God and the Son of God. God created with the Son in view (Bernard, 1994, p. 55). Jesus did not create as the Son of God. The Son wasn’t born until Bethlehem.

1 Corinthians 8:6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

This verse shows us that the Father is the Creator, and then explains that Jesus is the Creator. Jesus is the Creator as God. From his Deity, he is the Creator of all things. Jesus did not create from his sonship- his humanity. Jesus is the Creator from his Deity, as God. The one who was later manifest in flesh is the Creator.

Jesus is the Creator because he is Jehovah, the one God manifest in flesh.

John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

1 Timothy 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

The Creator, the one true God, was manifest in flesh to become our redeemer. As our God, He is the Creator that would manifest himself in flesh to become our Savior. He did not create as the Savior- as the Son of God. He created as God. Jesus Christ is our God, our Savior, our Redeemer, our LORD, our Mediator, our Comforter, and our Father. All of this is possible because He was first our Creator.

Rubik’s Cube is a simple puzzle, containing six sides with nine squares on each side. The cube can be twisted and turned, mixing up the puzzle, creating many combinations. Twisting the cube in random patterns, we will never see all of the 43 quintillion combinations but the cube can be solved in a matter of minutes, or even seconds, using logical patterns. Logic and intelligence brings order; random chance will only bring chaos.

Through the complex laws of probability, Rubik’s Cube supports the theory of Creation while disproving the theory of evolution. The basis behind the theory of evolution is that things move from simple to complex by random chance (Ferrel, 2001, p. 777). The theory of evolution claims that random chance is responsible for the existence of life and the universe. Marshall Brain states:

Billions of years ago, according to the theory of evolution, chemicals randomly organized themselves into a self-replicating molecule. This spark of life was the seed of every living thing we see today (as well as those we no longer see, like dinosaurs). That simplest life form, through the processes of mutation and natural selection, has been shaped into every living species on the planet (n.d., How evolution works).

Marshall goes on to say, “Through random mutations and natural selection, evolution has produced mammals of striking diversity from that humble starting point” (n.d., How evolution works). The laws of probability cannot allow this to happen any more than randomly twisting Rubik’s Cube would result in a solved puzzle.

Dr. Henry Morris of the Institute for Creation Research explains the difficulties of probability of random chance:

For example, consider a series of ten flash cards, numbered from one to ten. If these are thoroughly and randomly mixed, and then laid out successively in a linear array along the table, it would be extremely unlikely that the numbers would fall out in order from one to ten. Actually, there are 3,628,800 different ways in which these numbers could be arranged, so that the “probability” of this particular ordered arrangement is only one in 3,628,800. (This number is “ten factorial,” written as 10!, and can be calculated simply by multiplying together all the numbers from one to ten.) (2004, Probability).

Random twisting would not even allow you to see all 43 quintillion (43,252,003,274,489,856,000 to be exact) combinations. As Joyner explains, “Twisting the cube at random would never allow every combination to be seen, no matter how long the cube is twisted and turned” (2001, Mathematics of Rubik’s Cube). Rubik’s Cube cannot be solved by random twists; however, using intelligently designed patterns, Rubik’s Cube can be solved within seconds.

Rubik’s Cube demonstrates the impossibility of random chance bringing order to chaos. As explained by Henry Morris, “Creationists maintain that highly ordered systems could not arise by chance, since random processes generate disorder rather than order, simplicity rather than complexity and confusion instead of ‘information’” (2004, Probability). It took intelligence, not random chance, to create the universe and everything in it. Likewise, it takes intelligence, not random chance, to solve Rubik’s Cube. Rubik’s Cube supports intelligent design.

Henry Morris goes on to say, “..the probability of the chance occurrence of any kind of “information” in a system is very small, and that this probability rapidly diminishes as the complexity of the system increases” (2004, Probability). Morris concludes, “…whenever one sees any kind of real ordered complexity in nature, particularly as found in living systems, he can be sure this complexity was designed” (2004, Probability). The universe is no more a product of random occurrence as is Rubik’s Cube.

Comparing the cubes that make up Rubik’s Cube to DNA, we see that Rubik’s Cube, when taken apart, would reach just a couple of feet across the table. DNA, on the other hand, would stretch to the moon and back 130,000 times (Stanford, 2004). If just a couple of feet of cubes could not happen by chance, or requires intelligence to solve, it is not possible, let alone probable, that DNA could happen by random chance.

Billions of years of random chance did not result in Erno Rubik’s puzzle. Billions of years of evolution did not bring the universe into existence. The existence of Rubik’s Cube demands a designer. More importantly, the existence of the universe demands a designer. There is an intelligent, loving creator and we are his special creation.

God created all things in the beginning. There are many theories on when the beginning was. Some believe the beginning took place many billions of years ago. Others believe the beginning was only several thousand years ago. Some believe the six days of Creation were not literal days, while others believe they were 24 hour days. Some believe the first four days were ‘eternal days’. There is another belief, known as the gap theory, that states there was a gap between verse 1 and 2 of Genesis, giving ample time for all of the ‘geologic ages’. What do the scriptures have to say on this topic? Let’s look and see…

Genesis 1:1-2 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Some see a gap between the first and second verse. The gap is used for a couple of things. One use of the gap is to give room for geologic ages. The problem is the Earth’s current geologic condition could not have happened between verse one and two. The current geologic condition of the Earth is the result of the flood of Noah. Another belief about a gap is that Satan had a kingdom and this is when Satan fell. The scriptures do not tell us when Satan fell specifically, but we do know from scripture that Satan had already fallen when he spoke with Eve in the Garden of Eden. We are not told how long Adam and Eve were in the garden before they fell. Any theories we come up with are inconclusive because the scriptures simply do not give us the information. If there was a gap between verses one and two it was a very short gap because the events in Genesis 1:3-5 are the first day. Scripture does not support the gap theory, not is it necessary to explain a time period for the fall of Satan. The scriptures tell us that God created everything in the first six days.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The first day

Genesis 1:3-5 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

Hebrew words

3117 yowm, yom {yome} Meaning: 1) day, time, year 1a) day (as opposed to night) 1b) day (24 hour period) 1b1) as defined by evening and morning in Genesis 1 1b2) as a division of time 1b2a) a working day, a day’s journey 1c) days, lifetime (pl.) 1d) time, period (general) 1e) year 1f) temporal references 1f1) today 1f2) yesterday 1f3) tomorrow

The Hebrew word for day is yowm. Yowm literally means a 24 hour period. Looking at the context itself we see the description of a 24 hour period from the phrase: “And the evening and the morning were the first day.” This phrasing is continued through each of the first 6 days, showing they were literal 24 hour days.

The phrase “And the evening and the morning” describes a very specific period of time. There is no room for this to mean more than 24 hours. The phrase “the first day” is very specific as to which day it was. There can only be one “first day”.

The second day

Genesis 1:6-8 6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

Again the phrase “And the evening and the morning were the second day” is descriptive of an actual 24 hour period.

The firmament is an ‘expanse’; a large area. The description is that there is water above and water below the large area. The expanse is then called ‘heaven’. There are three ‘heavens’ in scripture. This heaven is referring to the atmosphere, showing that there was water above the atmosphere. This is where the idea of a ‘water canopy’ around the Earth before the flood of Noah comes from.

The third day

Genesis 1:9-13 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

We have another phrase that describes a specific day. One problem with the idea of the first four days being ‘eternal days’ is that plants were made on day three and the sun wasn’t made until day four. If days three and four were long periods of time, the plants could not have survived. It is true there was ‘light’ made on the first day, but that’s not the same thing as ‘the sun’. The sun does more than just give light. It also gives heat and chlorophyll. Plants need both, heat and chlorophyll, to survive.

The fourth day

Genesis 1:14-19 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

The phrase “divide the day from the night” in Hebrew literally means “between the day and between the night”. This context is speaking of a literal 24 hour day.

The fifth day

Genesis 1:20-23 20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. 23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

Same phrase… showing a literal 24 hour day.

The sixth day

Genesis 1:24-31 24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them. 28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

Again, same phrase- showing a literal 24 hour day.

The seventh day

Genesis 2:1-4 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,

“The seventh day”. Each of these days show a literal 24 hour day. Even more specific, each day is described as “the _ day”. There can be only one first day, second day, third day, fourth day, fifth day, sixth day, and seventh day.

The scriptures describe the first 7 days as literally 24 hours each. The words and phrases used can only mean a 24 hour day. The scriptures do not give leeway for anything else. The scriptures do not give room for long periods of time or ‘ages’. These long periods of time are needed by those that believe in evolution. There are no scientific facts that prove the earth is older than what the Bible says. Long periods of time are seen through ‘interpretation’ of the facts. There are other ways to scientifically interpret the facts. Creation is a past event. It is ‘historical science’. No one can go back in time and test, observe, or demonstrate Creation. All we have are the facts, and those facts must be interpreted in the present.

Problems and arguments

There are some problems with the first six days being more than 24 hour days. Plants were made on the third day. The sun wasn’t made until the fourth day.

Any geologic features the Earth had acquired before the flood of Noah were destroyed in the flood of Noah.

Some use 2 Peter 3:8 to say that a day with God is like a thousand years. The point they want to make is that the first seven days could have been longer than a literal 24 hour day because to God it is all the same. Let’s look at the verse in context.

2 Peter 3:4-8 4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. 5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: 6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

Verse 8 is referring to God’s patience of waiting until the Day of Judgment. We see this in verse seven. One logical problem in using this verse in reference to the days of creation is that plants were made on the fourth day, and the sun wasn’t made until the fifth day. The plants could not have gone 1000 years without the sun. Light was made on the first day, but that’s not the same thing as the sun. Even if the first seven days were 1000 years long each (which the scriptures do not support), the Earth would still be less than 14,000 years old. This verse does not help anyone that wants to believe the Earth is older than that.

I find it much easier (and logically sound) to believe what the Bible says about Creation. The scriptures say that the heavens, the earth, and everything in them were created in six literal days.

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

Exodus 31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

The scriptures are clear that God created the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all that are in them in six literal days.

Adam and Eve were created at the beginning of creation.

Mark 10:6 But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female.

Following the dates given in the Bible we see that the earth is around 6000 years old. From creation to the flood was about 2000 years. From the flood to the birth of Jesus was about 2000 years. From the time of Jesus and the birth of the Church is about 2000 years. (These dates are loosely given as examples. We can count the dates given in scripture, but we cannot get an exact figure. I suggest counting the dates given in scripture as an exercise in Biblical chronology.) Even if we are off of our count by hundreds of years, there is not room for the earth to be more than several thousand years old.

Mainstream science would have us believe that the universe is billions of years old. This idea doesn’t line up with scripture. Also, this idea is not supported by scientific facts. The concept of the earth being billions of years old isn’t found in fact- it is found in the interpretation of fact. I would rather take the word of the Almighty Creator of the universe than the word of fallible man, many whom have an agenda to not believe in God. Placing billions of years in the Bible would compromise the inerrancy of the Bible. There is no reason to believe the Bible contains errors. In fact, scientists find evidence every day that supports the six days of creation and the inerrancy of the Bible.

We have no excuse for not believing in Creation.

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Even our conscience bears witness to us.

Romans 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

Placing billions of years before the Creation of Adam would be placing death before Adam. Death is the result of sin. Death came into the world because of the fall of Adam and Eve. Because of sin, God was manifest in flesh to provide atonement for sin. Jesus died on the cross and provides salvation through his gospel- his death, burial, and resurrection. In order to apply his gospel to our lives, we must repent, be baptized in Jesus name, and be filled with the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

God created all things for a purpose, and that purpose is so that He can share it with us. He loves us so much that He made a way of salvation, and it is a free gift. All we have to do is believe it and obey it. God created the universe just like the Bible says. The Word of God is true. Believe it. Obey it.

The Bible tells us that God is the cause of the existence of the universe and everything in it.

Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

One of the most important and essential concepts that we can believe and understand is that God exists and that God created all things. All doctrine is built upon this foundation. If we do not believe in the existence of God, nothing else matters. The scriptures do not attempt to prove that God exists. Instead, we see by creation itself that there must have been a creator (Rom. 1:20).

Romans 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse

There are three explanations for the existence of the universe:

It has always existed. This requires the universe to be eternal, making the universe itself God.

It came into existence by itself. This is a self-creating universe, which also requires the universe to be God.

God created it. This requires the existence of an all-powerful, all-knowing, and everywhere-present God.

None of these explanations can be proven scientifically; however the evidence points toward the universe being spoken into existence by an omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent being. It is more logical to believe in a creator than to believe that the universe has always existed or created itself from nothing on its own.

The universe itself points to a designer. The vast complexities of the planets, elements, life, laws, and the orderliness of the universe could not have happened by random chance.

Here are just a few examples of why evolution does not work:

The law of Biogenesis says that life can only come from life (Moehlenpah, p.47). The idea that life can spontaneously generate from non-life has never been observed, repeated, or verified, which means it is not scientific (Moehlenpah, p.47). There are also genetic barriers that will not allow one type of animal to slowly become another type of animal. The information in the genes is simply not there for a horse to grow wings and no amount of small variations (small variations are scientific) or harmful mutations (which are a loss of information- not a gain that is needed to evolve) can help (no matter how many years you give it). It’s not that there is a ‘link’ missing. The ‘whole chain’ is missing.

The first law of Thermodynamics says that matter cannot be created or destroyed (Moehlenpah, p.52). This means that nothing new is being created by evolving (Moehlenpah, p.52). This also means that nothing came into existence without God, for God is the only being or power that can overcome the first law of Thermodynamics. Matter could not come into existence on its own by any amount of wishing, dreaming, or imagining on the part of evolutionists.

The second law of Thermodynamics shows that everything moves toward disorder (Moehlenpah, p.52). No amount of probability and randomness is going to bring order to chaos on the level that would be needed to create a universe full of stars, planets, and life on Earth. It takes intelligent input to bring order to chaos. Random energy will not change a chaotic state to the state of order that we see in the universe. My PC was built from intelligence- not from placing electronic components in a room for a hundred years and hoping they would form into something useful. My car was built from intelligence- not from an explosion in a metal shop that by random chance happened to make a car. Rubik’s Cube can be twisted and turned at random for 1000 years, but it is impossible to accidently solve the cube (let alone see all 43 quintillion combinations). However, with intelligently designed patterns, Rubik’s Cube can be solved within seconds. It takes intelligence to bring order to chaos.

Arlo Moehlenpah says it best: “True science has never discovered anything that contradicts the Word of God” (Moehlenpah, p.52). The Word of God is scientifically sound. And the Word of God proclaims that this universe was spoken into existence by our loving Creator.

Psalm 33:6 By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.

If we do not believe that God created all things, we call God’s word a liar. The Bible declares God as the creator. The Bible says that God created everything in the universe in six literal days (Ex. 20:11).

Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

The scriptures further declare that Jesus is the Creator.

John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

John 1:10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

Colossians 1:16-17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: 17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

This does not give room for man’s teachings of evolution and the universe being billions of years old, which is non-scientific since science is something that can be observed and tested. Creation is a past event. All we have are the results of creation. No one can go back in time and witness the creation of the universe, but we do have the word of God that proclaims God as the creator of all things, and the evidence backs up that claim.

Man was created in God’s image. Man’s moral nature shows that we have a conscience and a sense of morality (Rom. 2:15).

Romans 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another

We can see the proof of God’s existence in our lives. Many have lived better lives because of God’s influence. Many have had a personal relationship with God that can’t be explained any other way. God has performed miracles and healings, and has given the Fruit of the Spirit and the Gifts of the Spirit as evidence of his work in our lives.

Above all, we accept God’s existence by faith (Heb. 11:6).

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Belief in creation by an intelligent being is a religion- not a science. Belief that the universe and everything in it evolved from nothing on its own is a religion- not a science. Creation cannot be proven scientifically. Evolution cannot be proven scientifically. Those that want science to prove creation do not fully understand what science is. Those that want science to prove evolution do not fully understand what science is. Science cannot prove anything. Science can test. Science can predict. Science can support ideas. Evolution defies known scientific laws. Science does not support ideas that contradict known scientific laws. Creation requires a supreme intelligent designer. The evidence supports this belief. I will except by faith that God is the creator of the universe. I don’t have enough faith to believe in evolution.
