The Blood Moon

Posted by on Apr 14, 2014 in Prophecy

We get a rare lunar eclipse tonight called the ‘blood moon’. The moon will literally look the color of blood. As it happens, Joel prophesied in the Old Testament that the moon would be turned to blood before the second coming of Christ.

30 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.

31 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the LORD come.”

(Joe 2:30-31 KJV)

The Third Vial

4 And the third angel poured out his vial upon the rivers and fountains of waters; and they became blood.

5 And I heard the angel of the waters say, Thou art righteous, O Lord, which art, and wast, and shalt be, because thou hast judged thus.

6 For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, and thou hast given them blood to drink; for they are worthy.

7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.”

(Rev 16:4-7 KJV)

The Second Vial

“And the second angel poured out his vial upon the sea; and it became as the blood of a dead man: and every living soul died in the sea.” (Rev 16:3 KJV)

The second vial turns the sea to blood of the dead, killing every creature in the sea. Some believe that the sea turns the color of blood, while others proclaim it is literal blood. It is very specific as to what kind of blood it is: blood of a dead man. It could be that the blood of those killed has run into the sea, or they died in the sea. Since it uses the term ‘as’, it could be figurative. I believe it is literal, just like in Exodus.

The First Vial

“And the first went, and poured out his vial upon the earth; and there fell a noisome and grievous sore upon the men which had the mark of the beast, and upon them which worshipped his image.” (Rev 16:2 KJV)

The first vial causes severe sores on those that took the mark of the beast and worshipped his image. Some suggest that the mark itself could have caused the sores. Examples of why this could happen include chips under the skin that melt or leach poisons into the body.

Pour Out the Vials

“And I heard a great voice out of the temple saying to the seven angels, Go your ways, and pour out the vials of the wrath of God upon the earth.” (Rev 16:1 KJV)

The seven vials are the last and most severe judgments that are poured out in the last three and a half years of the tribulation period. The seven vials symbolize the wrath of God. These are literal catastrophes that will come upon the earth. Many call this portion of the tribulation period the Great Tribulation because of its severity.

Seven Golden Vials

6 And the seven angels came out of the temple, having the seven plagues, clothed in pure and white linen, and having their breasts girded with golden girdles.

7 And one of the four beasts gave unto the seven angels seven golden vials full of the wrath of God, who liveth for ever and ever.

8 And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power; and no man was able to enter into the temple, till the seven plagues of the seven angels were fulfilled.”

Tabernacle of Testimony

“And after that I looked, and, behold, the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven was opened:” (Rev 15:5 KJV)

This is the Temple in Heaven that was seen in chapter 11:

“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.” (Rev 11:19 KJV)

The Sea of Glass

2 And I saw as it were a sea of glass mingled with fire: and them that had gotten the victory over the beast, and over his image, and over his mark, and over the number of his name, stand on the sea of glass, having the harps of God.

3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints.

4 Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.”

Seven Last Plagues

“And I saw another sign in heaven, great and marvellous, seven angels having the seven last plagues; for in them is filled up the wrath of God.” (Rev 15:1 KJV)

Chapter 15 sets the stage for the last seven vial judgments. These judgments cover the last 3.5 years of the Great Tribulation period and cover chapters 16-19. These are the seven last plagues seen here and are called the judgments of the “seven golden vials”. These are the last judgments before the Battle of Armageddon.

The Winepress

17 And another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle.

18 And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe.

19 And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God.

The Harvest of the Earth

14 And I looked, and behold a white cloud, and upon the cloud one sat like unto the Son of man, having on his head a golden crown, and in his hand a sharp sickle.

15 And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap: for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe.

16 And he that sat on the cloud thrust in his sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.”
