Satan’s Seat
“I know thy works, and where thou dwellest, even where Satan’s seat is:” (Rev 2:13a KJV)
Pergamos was the center for pagan worship – even worse than the pagan worship found in Smyrna. Pergamos was called Satan’s seat and the place where Satan dwelled. Satan’s seat is this world system.
“In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.” (2Co 4:4 KJV)
Antipas the Faithful Martyr
“and thou holdest fast my name, and hast not denied my faith, even in those days wherein Antipas was my faithful martyr, who was slain among you, where Satan dwelleth.” (Rev 2:13b KJV)
Christians were persecuted for not following along with the worship of false gods to the point that Antipas was martyred for keeping the faith. Jesus tells us what He wants us to do in the face of persecution- hold fast to His name and do not deny the faith.
