Holy, Holy, Holy
“And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy,” (Rev 4:8a KJV)
Could this three-fold exclamation hint to the interworking’s and character of the godhead? No. Three-fold repetition is common in Hebrew as a means of emphasis. We also see this three-fold repetition in Isaiah.
“And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.” (Isa 6:3 KJV)
The Jews still understood God to be fully one.
Jeremiah uses a three-fold repetition of the earth.
“O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD.” (Jer 22:29 KJV)
We don’t see this as hinting to the nature or character of the earth. There is still only one Earth.
The four beasts worship God before His throne. This is a reference of reverence. God is the embodiment of holiness. God truly is holy from within. He is not just ‘being’ holy; He ‘is’ holy.
“For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy: neither shall ye defile yourselves with any manner of creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.” (Lev 11:44 KJV)
“Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” (1Pe 1:16 KJV)
Lord God Almighty
“Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come.” (Rev 4:8b KJV)
This one Lord God Almighty is Jesus. We see this same description of Jesus in the first chapter of Revelation.
“John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you, and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and from the seven Spirits which are before his throne;” (Rev 1:4 KJV)
“I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.” (Rev 1:8 KJV)
“17 And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last:
18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”
(Rev 1:17-18 KJV)
” I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” (Rev 22:13 KJV)
