Eagle’s Wings
“13 And when the dragon saw that he was cast unto the earth, he persecuted the woman which brought forth the man child.
14 And to the woman were given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness, into her place, where she is nourished for a time, and times, and half a time, from the face of the serpent.”
(Rev 12:13-14 KJV)
After being cast down to Earth, Satan’s goal is to punish God through a strong persecution of Israel. God protects Israel and makes a way for her to flee to the wilderness.
The wings of a great eagle are given to Israel to show that Israel has been given the means by God to escape Satan’s persecution. This same metaphor is used in Exodus to show that God gave Israel a swift escape from Egypt.
“Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself.” (Exo 19:4 KJV)
“11 As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings:
12 So the LORD alone did lead him, and there was no strange god with him.
13 He made him ride on the high places of the earth, that he might eat the increase of the fields; and he made him to suck honey out of the rock, and oil out of the flinty rock;
14 Butter of kine, and milk of sheep, with fat of lambs, and rams of the breed of Bashan, and goats, with the fat of kidneys of wheat; and thou didst drink the pure blood of the grape.”
(Deu 32:11-14 KJV)
Israel will be nourished for 3.5 years in the wilderness, just as they were nourished in the Exodus from Egypt.
