Rod of Iron
(Rev. 19:15 KJV) 15 And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
When Jesus returns with His armies it’s to deliver His wrath and punishment on the wicked nations.
The rod of iron is an iron scepter. Kings often rule with a scepter. This shows that Jesus is the rightful king of the earth. Iron shows that He can’t be broken or defeated. He will destroy His enemies.
(Ps. 2:9 KJV) 9 Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.
Winepress
The winepress is symbolic of a harvest and judgement.
(Isa. 64:1-2 KJV) Oh that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence,
2 As when the melting fire burneth, the fire causeth the waters to boil, to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!
(Zech. 14:3-4 KJV) 3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.
This shows that Jesus will not tolerate sin and He will punish those that disobey Him. His wrath is fierce.
Also notice who it is that’s delivering the wrath – this shows that Jesus is the Almighty God.
