Thou Art Worthy

9 And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever,

10 The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying,

11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

(Rev 4:9-11 KJV)

Holy, Holy, Holy

“And the four beasts had each of them six wings about him; and they were full of eyes within: and they rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy,” (Rev 4:8a KJV)

Could this three-fold exclamation hint to the interworking’s and character of the godhead? No. Three-fold repetition is common in Hebrew as a means of emphasis. We also see this three-fold repetition in Isaiah.

A Sea of Glass

” And before the throne there was a sea of glass like unto crystal:” (Rev 4:6a KJV)

We see the scene in Heaven in stark contrast to the events taking place on Earth. The sea of glass like unto crystal shows the calm beauty of the heavenly throne room. While the Earth is in turmoil, Heaven is a place of serenity. While Earth is at war, Heaven is a place of peace. While Earth is a place of sorrow and a place for Satan’s kingdom, Heaven is a place of joy and worship of God.

Lighting and Thunder

“And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices:” (Rev 4:5a KJV)

Lightning and thunder signify judgment. God is about to begin His judgment upon the Earth and unleash His wrath.

“And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.” (Rev 8:5 KJV)

24 Elders

“And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.” (Rev 4:4 KJV)

There are several possible explanations of the identity of the 24 elders. The 24 elders could represent the Church. We see in 5:9 the descriptions that have been given of the Church is also given of the elders. They are redeemed and come out of every nation.

He That Sat

“And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone:” (Rev 4:3a KJV)

John attempts to give us a description of the glorious vision of Jesus siting upon His throne. Words cannot do justice to the awesome presence of God. We can only relate to what we know, can see, touch, etc. John used words that demonstrated how precious God and Heaven is in a way that we can picture the presence of God for ourselves.
