One Throne

“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” (Rev 4:2 KJV)

We see from Revelation 3:21 there are two types of thrones- literal and metaphoric. The throne Jesus spoke of in 3:21 was metaphoric. The throne in 4:2 is literal. It is a single throne with one single being sitting on that throne. We see the identity of the one on the throne in chapter 21:

Division Three – The things which shall be hereafter

The Scene in Heaven

Hearafter

“After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.” (Rev 4:1 KJV)

The phrases ‘after this’ and ‘things which must be hereafter’ signal the third division of the book of Revelation. This division is still future and comprises the largest portion of the book.

In My Throne

“To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.” (Rev 3:21 KJV)

The Scriptures talk about two types of thrones – literal and metaphoric. A throne can be the chair of a king as seen elsewhere in Revelation:

“And immediately I was in the spirit: and, behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne.” (Rev 4:2 KJV)

Open the Door

” Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.” (Rev 3:20 KJV)

This is not a call to the lost sinner. It is a message to the Church- people who are already saved. As we saw in previous verses, the Church of Laodicea had become lukewarm and not included Jesus in their Church services. They did not keep God in their minds. They thought they had no need of God.

Chasten

“As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten:” (Rev 3:19z KJV)

Someone who truly loves us will correct us when we do wrong. God will not let us go astray without trying to bring us back. He will rebuke us for the wrong we do and attempt to correct us. He does this through His Word and through His Church. We should not ignore or despise God’s correction, but welcome it and accept it.

Gold Tried in the Fire

“I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich;” (Rev 3:18a KJV)

To buy from God means to seek God for something. God wants us to seek Him for the precious things of Him, not the things of the world. Gold tried in the fire is not monetary wealth so that we can be rich in man’s eyes. It is the precious purity of a holy life. We can’t live a holy life of our own righteousness but we can seek for God do give us strength through His Spirit and anointing that we can live holy, separated unto Him. This is true riches.
