They Shall Take Up Serpents

Posted by on Oct 4, 2010 in Healing, Holiness

‘Snake Handling’ is used in a few country Churches in order to prove, or as a sign of, their faith. The idea comes from an interpretation of Mark 16:18, where Jesus is giving His disciples a few parting words and instructions before He ascended into heaven, in which he mentions ‘taking up serpents’.

In the Form of God

Posted by on Sep 28, 2010 in Godhead

Philippians chapter 2 tells us that Jesus is in the form of God.

Phi 2:6-8 KJV 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Taking Notes

Posted by on Sep 22, 2010 in Bible Study Methods, Software

I never go to Church without my notebook. The preacher will always say something that I want to remember and refer back to. Sometimes this leads me to study the topic further, sometimes it gives me verses to put in my memory list, other times it gives me a reference to use. Sometimes it gives me ideas for articles to write. This article contains some of my thoughts, methods, tips, and advice on using a notebook for personal Bible study and note-taking.

The Father Manifested

Posted by on Sep 13, 2010 in Godhead

1 John 3:1-6 is an interesting passage. It reveals that the Father was manifested as our Savior.

1Jo 3:1-6 KJV Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3 And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure. 4 Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him.

I recently had the chance to make it to Answers in Genesis’ Creation Museum in Petersburg Kentucky (seven miles west of Cincinnati OH.). It was well worth the trip. It took a full day to go through the museum and we could have stayed longer. The museum focuses on creation, but also includes lots of information from creation up to present day including Adam and Eve, Noah’s flood, Abraham, Jesus, the printing press, and more.

Did God Forsake Jesus on the Cross?

Posted by on Aug 27, 2010 in Godhead, Salvation

Just before his death, Jesus asked:

Mat 27:46 KJV And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?

Did God really forsake Jesus just as he was giving his life as a sacrifice for the sins of the world? Does this verse prove a separation between the Father and the Son? Did God leave Jesus on the cross just before he died? Did the Father separate Himself from the Son?

The Rapture of the Church

Posted by on Aug 21, 2010 in Prophecy

1Th 4:17 KJV 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

One of the most important events that will take place in the end-times is the rapture of the Church. The rapture is when Jesus comes into the clouds for His Church. Some argue against the doctrine of the rapture because the word ‘rapture’ is not in Scripture. While this is true, the concepts certainly are found in Scripture. The word ‘rapture’ is a Latin word that means ‘catching away’, and that’s exactly what will happen when Jesus stands in those clouds. Now let’s look at some of the verses and concepts that let us know that Jesus is coming back for His Church.
