The White Horse Rider

“And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.” (Rev 6:2 KJV)

The white horse rider is an intriguing mystery and there is a lot of speculation as to his identity.

There are several key points about the white horse rider:

  • He rides a white horse
  • He has a bow, but with no mention of arrows
  • He wears a stephanos, or royal, crown that was given to him
  • He is conquering
  • He will continue to conquer

The Four Horseman of the Apocalypse

“And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.” (Rev 6:1 KJV)

After the church is caught up into Heaven, Jesus, the worthy lamb, opens the seals of the book. The opening of the first seal starts the Tribulation. Each seal that is opened will release God’s wrath upon the world. The first four seals release the four horseman of the apocalypse – the white horse represents conquest, the red horse represents war, the black horse represents famine, and the pale horse represents death.

Worthy is the Lamb

11 And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;

12 Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.

13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

14 And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.”

(Rev 5:11-14 KJV)

A New Song

9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

(Rev 5:9-10 KJV)

The new song is representative of new life that Jesus purchased with His own blood. While the Tribulation period is about to start, John sees those in Heaven worshiping God and recognizes that they came out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.

Harps

“And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps,” (Rev 5:8a KJV)

The scene in Heaven is consistently that or worship. We see not only that fact of worship, but also the means of worship. Here we see the beasts and the elders playing harps and worshiping God with music. Playing music in Heaven is not just for a select few. All those in Heaven are Church musicians. Music is a great way of worshipping God as He delights in songs of praise. Several books of the Bible are songs or contain songs.
