First Love
“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” (Rev 2:4 KJV)
The greatest commandment is that there is one God and we are to place God first.
“4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.”
(Deu 6:4-5 KJV)
“29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:
30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”
(Mar 12:29-30 KJV)
The Church of Ephesus lost their love for God. It is not enough to go the Church, talk the part of a Christian, and look the part of a Christian. We must devote our lives to God and His work. God must come first.
“If ye love me, keep my commandments.” (Joh 14:15 KJV)
” He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.” (Joh 14:21 KJV)
“If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.” (Joh 15:10 KJV)
It is important that we do not lose sight of God’s mission and allow the cares of this world to take over our hearts and minds. We must devote ourselves to God. We must not lose our first love.
