Do the First Works
“Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works;” (Rev 2:5a KJV)
Jesus wants us to examine ourselves, judge ourselves, look into the mirror that is His Word and know what we should be and realize what we have become.
“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?” (2Co 13:5 KJV)
“23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.”
(Jam 1:23-24 KJV)
If we don’t stack up to what Jesus expects of us, He calls us to repent and do our first works – to give ourselves to God and devote our lives to Him. We must put God first.
Remove the Candlestick
“or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.” (Rev 2:5b KJV)
If we don’t repent and turn back to God, He will remove our candlestick. He will remove the light of truth and we will be left to apostasy. He will remove a fallen Church from its place in His kingdom unless they repent.
