Jesus gave us a command in the Great Commission to spread His gospel and to baptize. Most have misunderstood His command. Let’s examine the command of baptism in the Great Commission and compare scripture for a clearer understanding.
The command is to baptize in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 28:18-20 18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen
Most have understood this verse to mean ‘baptize in these titles”. Looking at the text, we see the command of Jesus is to baptize “in the name”. This is one singular name. Many Trinitarian scholars have recognized that Matthew 28:19 is referring to one name (Segraves, 2009, para. 10). It’s easy to figure out what this name is. All it takes is one question- what is the name of the Son? The name of the Son is Jesus.
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Since Jesus is the name of the Son, and this command includes the name of the Son, the name of Jesus should be used in baptism.
Matthew was there on the day of Pentecost when Peter preached his sermon.
Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Matthew certainly didn’t correct Peter if he felt that Peter had misunderstood Jesus’ command.
One argument is that the phrase ‘in the name of’ in Acts 2:38 means ‘by the authority of’. This is the same phrase in Matthew 28:19. If the phrase ‘in the name of’ means ‘by the authority of’ in Acts 2:38, then it must also mean ‘by the authority of’ in Matthew 28:19 – and we then would have no baptismal formula. Fortunately, we find many verses in scripture that do give us a baptismal formula. All we have to do is see how the Apostles obeyed this command, but some would say the Apostles didn’t follow Jesus’ command.
I’ve heard some say that they would rather obey the words of Jesus than the words of Peter. After all, Peter denied Jesus, right? This logic has many flaws.
First, the whole Bible is the Word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
Second, although Peter denied Jesus, he did repent and Jesus gave him the keys to the kingdom.
Matthew 16:18-19 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
Third, there is no contradiction between Matthew 28:19 and the baptismal passages in Acts. Matthew 28:19 tells us to be baptized ‘in the name’.
Is this three names or one?
The word ‘name’ in Matthew 28:19 is singular, signifying just one single name (Segraves, 2009, para. 15). What is the one name of Matthew 28:19? What name does God say He will be known by?
God said that He would be known by His ‘name’.
Isaiah 52:6 Therefore my people shall know my name: therefore they shall know in that day that I am he that doth speak: behold, it is I.
Zechariah 14:9 And the LORD shall be king over all the earth: in that day shall there be one LORD, and his name one.
God speaks of a singular name. Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are not proper names, but titles (Bernard, p. 61). Even if they were names, this verse is talking about one name- not three names. What is the one name?
We’ve already seen that the name of the Son is Jesus.
Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.
Jesus said that he came in his Father’s name.
John 5:43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
Jesus also said that he manifested the name of the Father to us.
John 17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.
John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.
Jesus received his name by inheritance.
Hebrews 1:4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
The Old Testament tells us that the Messiah would declare God’s name.
Psalm 22:22 I will declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation will I praise thee.
Hebrews 2:12 Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee.
The name that Jesus received, came in, manifested, and declared was Jesus (Bernard, p. 62). The name of the Father is Jesus.
Jesus also tells us about the Holy Ghost, the ‘Comforter’.
John 14:16-18 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
John 14:23 Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
The Holy Ghost is given in the name of Jesus.
Another question we should ask is “how did the apostles interpret this command”?
We see in the book of Acts that the Apostles understood Jesus’ command as ‘in the name of Jesus’.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Acts 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
Acts 10:48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.
Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
They recognized that the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost is Jesus. In every case in scripture that mentions a name being used in baptism it is always in the name of Jesus.
How is the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost Jesus?
The scriptures tell us there is one God.
Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Galatians 3:20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one.
1 Timothy 2:5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
The Titles Father, Son, and Holy Ghost refer to roles.
The title Father refers to God in a parental relationship to humanity (Bernard, p. 62).
Deuteronomy 32:6 Do ye thus requite the LORD, O foolish people and unwise? is not he thy father that hath bought thee? hath he not made thee, and established thee?
Malachi 2:10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us?
Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Hebrews 12:9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
The title Son refers to the Incarnation- God manifest in flesh (Bernard, p. 63). As a man, Jesus is the Son of God.
Luke 1:35 And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Galatians 4:4 But when the fulness of the time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law,
Hebrews 1:5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?
The title Son always refers to God as revealed in humanity. It never refers to Deity (Bernard, p. 63). The Deity in Jesus is the Father.
John 10:30 I and my Father are one.
John 10:38 But if I do, though ye believe not me, believe the works: that ye may know, and believe, that the Father is in me, and I in him.
John 14:8-11 8 Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us. 9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? 10 Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works’ sake.
The title of Holy Ghost refers to the Spirit of God in action and relation to humanity (Bernard, p. 63).
Genesis 1:2 And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.
John 14:16-18 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. 18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Jesus was claiming that He is the Comforter, the Holy Ghost that the Apostles would soon receive.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
The Holy Ghost is the Spirit of the Father.
Matthew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Matthew 10:20 For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.
Romans 8:15-16 15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
1 Peter 1:2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.
Compare this verse to Jude 1.
Jude 1:1 Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:
We are sanctified of the Spirit, which is the Spirit of the Father.
Matthew 28:19 is not the only place that the Great Commission is recorded. It is very general, with its contents to come from other scriptures (Reeves, p. 35). For example, we also see the Great Commission is Luke 24:47.
Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
In this record of the great commission, Jesus tells that remission of sins, which is through water baptism (see Acts 2:38), should be preached in his name. This shows us that remission of sins is through baptism in Jesus name.
It is clear that the Apostles understood Jesus’ commission with a wider source of information and a clearer view (Reeves, p. 35). Peter and Paul baptized in Jesus name.
The three titles, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost do not refer to three persons within the Godhead. Instead, as can be seen when compared in scripture, they describe roles of God. God was manifest in flesh to provide salvation through the blood of His sinless Son, Jesus. Jesus is both God and man, Father and Son; Creator and Savior. He is the Father to us through creation and His relationship to us. As the Son he is our sacrifice. He is the Holy Ghost in transforming and regenerating us with His Spirit baptism. Jesus is the one name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Jesus is the name given to us for salvation.
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
Simply repeating the command that Jesus gives us isn’t obeying the command. Jesus is the name that God revealed to us for our salvation. We are commanded to be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of sins.

It is hard to argue the fact of the truthfulness of this “in the name” debate. To me it is pretty clear that they baptized in Jesus name in nearly every instance but what is also interesting is that not every baptism had an evidence of spiritual gifts as David Bernard and others seem to put a premium on for initial placement of anointing from God
Almost every Bible scholar, Oneness and Trinitarian alike, agree that these (Matt. 28:19) were not the accual words of Jesus. Most say that the original Greek text read more along the lines of:
“Go and make disciples of all the nations (some add ‘baptizing them…’) in my name, teaching them to observe all things I have commanded you.”
I agree with what is written here. However, I am still confused a little. I was raised to be baptized in the “father, son, holy spirit” & that’s how I was baptized. I know people who recieved the holy spirit after being baptized this way. How is that possible if the only way to do it is in Jesus name?
I have not received it yet & plan on being rebaptized on the name of Jesus.
Matt 28:19 is the last command Jesus gives before ascending up into heaven.
When the day of Pentecost is fully come this commandment is followed by Peter who preaches the first plan of
salvation in Acts 2:38. This is not a disobedience to the words of Christ but an understanding that Jesus is the
Father, Son, and the Holy spirit. If anyone knew what the Lord Jesus wanted it would of been his right hand man, Peter who also had the keys to the kingdom. This is not a contradiction in scripture but total fulfillment and obedience to lord Jesus Christ.

If the Father and the Son were One Person instead of Two, Jesus would NEVER have said: “If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and WE will come unto him, and make our abode with him.” How do you explain the “we”? If your view is right, Jesus should have said “I,” not “we.”

Hi Paul. The Father and the Son are not one in the same, or interchangeable. The term ‘Father’ refers to Deity and the term ‘Son’ refers to the humanity of Jesus. They are not the same nature or aspect of Jesus. Jesus could speak as a man or as God. We see this all throughout Scripture. I cover John 14:23 in more detail in this article:

Hi Paul, how do i clearly explain the fact that father ,son,holy spirit- is all about jesus? does it mean that the Father is Jesus, the son is Jesus and the holu ghost is Jesus? in John 14:6-8 Philip asked Jesus ” show us the father and that will be enough for us “and jesus replied so you don’t know me all this while he who knows me certainly have seen the father. Is jesus claiming to be the God the Father? and also in jesus said i will asked my father to send the comforter in my name…..the world can”t see him but you know him for he lives with you and he will live in you when he comes.i lead a home cell group and this is becoming tough to explain. kindly help m,e out

Hi, I just found this site. God is Good. I am needing to find a Group of people who are deeply seeking Gods truth. I apologize up front for my grammar and spelling…. Its real nice to see a lot of scripture. I love the word. I am looking into this topic. I am a seeker of truth, Lover of the one true God, and very thankful that the Messiah died for me. I don’t mean to muddy the waters but I am wondering why we don’t baptize in the name of the one true God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob? The best I can tell His name is the Name of the Most High. This would also be the name of our savior? There is only one Elohim and His name is YHWH or יהוה “Pronounced Yahweh”. I am sorry If I have misspoke. Just trying to understand what I believe YHWH is trying to show me. When we say the name Jesus everyone understands but History and studying shows that we know that’s not his real name. I want to honor the Most High in all I do. Thanks for any help in advance.

I hope I am allowed to post my comment concerning this subject which is evidence of our Savior’s hallowed, eternal and saving name stated in the scrip and language of the Hebrews. That fact does not make His name of Hebrew origin because His name, like His being, has always existed, cf. Isaiah 63:16,”our Father, our Redeemer, from everlasting is your name;” and compare Isaiah 45:21, “the only Righteous God and Savior.” Indeed, Yah is the “Everlasting Father, Mighty God, and the Prince of Peace,” Isaiah 9:6, the God-man who, as the Son of God/Son of Man/Son of David, (‘The Root and Offspring of David,’ Rev. 22:16), who loved us while we were all sinners and laid down His life to save us (Ro. 5:8), and sent His promises Spirit to fill us, cf. Joel 2:28-32; Acts 2:17-39.

Yah, who is Salvation, (Yah-oshua) as the Son and Anointed One, prayed for his disciples in John 17:17, saying, “Sanctify them by your word; your word if truth.” Therefore, since truth is the elements that separates and sets apart His disciples from sin and lies, and fills us with His love (Ro. 5:5) so that ‘we love Him because he first loved us,’ 1st John 4:19, and so we ‘love one another’ which is what identifies His disciples in the world (cf. John 13:35); let us pursue truth with a pure heart.
Eusebius, a 4th century AD historian, wrote in Ecclesical History Vol. 10, when Pantaenus, who was the head of the catechetical school in Alexandra, Egypt, went on a mission to India, c.180 AD, it is reported that his arrival with the good news of Salvation that it had been “preceded by the Gospel of Matthew” among those who knew our Savior there because “Bartholomew, one of the apostles, had preached to them and left behind Matthew’s writing in the script of the Hebrews.”
Since it is believed through critical evidence that all 27 books of the New Testament were written by the end of AD 100, then should realize for the original Gospel of Matthew existing in the script of the Hebrew existed 80 years later is certainly within the realm of reason.
The reality of the Gospel of Matthew written in the script of the Hebrews certainly eliminates any idea or valid claim that Matthew wrote it or any part of it in the script of the Grecians. Let us grasp the fact that the people in India were taught by Bartholomew the good news of Salvation from the Gospel written by Matthew in the script of the Hebrews. Therefore, in Matthew 1:21 what name did Matthew record for virgin Mary’s firstborn son? Matthew certainly would not have stated a Greek name, a Latin name, an English name, or any name other than the only name wherein is Salvation; the name of the one who came to this earth “to save His people from their sins.”
Matthew 1:1, nor any other verse in Matthew’s writing would have the Greek word, ‘kristos,’ the English transliteration of which is “Christ,” printed in his record. Matthew 1:1 would be addressing the Hebrews in their language, in their script, to establish the Hebrew “genealogy of Yah-oshua” (Yah, who is Salvation), “Mashiyach” (translaiterated in English, ‘Messiah,’ and translated into Greek as, ‘kristos,’ when transliterated into English is: ‘Christ,’ all meaning: Yah’s ‘Anointed One,’ Cf NIV study notes for Matthew 1:17), “the son of David, the son of Abraham.”
The NIV study notes for Matthew 1:21 reads: “Jesus is the Greek form of Joshua, which means: ‘the LORD saves.’” Notice in the NIV study note the upper case spelling of the word, ‘LORD,’ which the translators of the NIV have explained in its preface: “In regard to the divine name YHWH, commonly referred to as the Tetragrammaton, the translators adopted the device used in most English versions of rendering that name as ‘LORD’ in capital letters to distinguish it from, ‘Adonai,’ another Hebrew word rendered, ‘Lord.’” Therefore, they are telling us that ‘Joshua’ means, ‘Yahweh saves,’ but they also told us: ‘Jesus is the Greek for of Joshua.’
The word, ‘Jesus,’ in The Strongest NIV Exhaustive Concordance (ISBN:0-310-26285-2) which is a computer generated concordance from the Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek words, refers us to word # 2652 in its Greek dictionary. It shows us that word #2652, ‘Iesous,’ is used ‘916 times’ in the Greek versions of the Bible, and its translated: “Jesus, Joshua” and means, “Yahweh saves.”
The word, ‘Jesus,’ in The New strong’s Expanded Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible (ISBN: 0-7852-4539-1) refers us to word # 2424 in its Greek dictionary. It show us that word # 2424, ‘Iesous,’ is a substitute for the Hebrew original word # 3091, which is translated: Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) others Israelites.
The NIV concordance has a Crossover section in the back of that book which will allow the reader to compare Strong’s word numbers with the NIV word numbers. Strong’s Hebrew word #3091 crosses over the NIV Hebrew word # 3397, Yahoshua, which means, “Yahweh saves,” and is translated ‘Joshua’ 203 times.
Having reviewed this matter, we should understand that Matthew did not ever write the English name, ‘Jesus,’ nor the Greek name, ‘Iesous.’ Furthermore, Matthew did not write the Latin name, ‘Iesvs,’ because Matthew, a Hebrew, wrote in the script of the Hebrews. Therefore, Matthew wrote our Father/Saviors name: ‘Yahoshua.’ The Hebrews understood it meaning, “Yah Saves.”
Now let us consider Acts 7:44-45 and Hebrews 4:7-8 in the King James Version, Acts 7:44 “Our fathers had the tabernacle of witness in the wilderness, as he appointed, speaking unto Moses, that he should make it according to the fashion that he has seen. 45 Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David.” Hebrews 4:7-8, “Again, he limited a certain day, saying in David, ‘Today, after so long time; as it is said. ‘Today, if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.’(Psa. 95:7,8); Hebrews 4:8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.”
The reason why the KJV has the name, ‘Jesus,’ in Acts 7:44-45 and Hebrews 4:7-8, is because it was translated into English from a Greek version instead of from the Hebrew original. Since the exact Greek word, “Iesous,” was substituted for the Hebrew word, ‘Yahoshua,’ the new name for the son of Nun in Numbers 13:16, and for Mary’s firstborn, Matthew 1:21.
The very idea that anyone can claim that the Gospel was preached to Hebrews in the Greek language make no sense and serves only to promote their religious bias.
Before he ascended on high, our Savior, Yah0shua, said to his disciples and apostles in Luke 24:46-49, “This is what is written: The Anointed One (Hebrew, ‘Mashiyach’) will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached IN HIS NAME to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem (Yah-rusalem, the city that bears his name, Yah’s city of peace). 48 You are witnesses of these things. 49 I am going to send you WHAT my Father has promised (Joel 2:28ff); but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.” Cf Acts 1:8, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witness in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Interesting, to say the least, is the statement at the top of the Book of Hebrews in the Authorized Version of the King James Bible, AD 1611, digital copied ISBN: 978-0-310-44029-1, which says: “The Epistle of Paul, the Apostle to the Hebrews.” See also the introduction of Hebrews in the NIV study Bible, ISBN: 0-310-92573-8. Obvious, from the content of the book of Hebrews, it was written to the Hebrew people, but the person who penned the words appears not to be Paul, but may have well been Barnabas, cf. Tertullian’s De Pudicitia, 20, (c.200AD).
The theme of the Hebrews is the absolute supremacy and sufficiency of YahOshua, the Anointed One, as revealer and mediator of God’s grace. The Anointed One is God’s full and final revelation, far surpassing the limited revelation given in the Scriptures to His prophets, who searched for the date and time for the Anointed One was to arrive and provided the “everlasting salvation,” Isaiah 45:17/Joel 2:28-32/Acts 2:1-39.
Let us consider Matthew’s record of YahOshua and the devil tempting him in Matthew 4:1-11. We may confidently believe and understand that the Anointed One quoted Yah’s original words in Deut. 8:3/Mt. 4:4, “Man does not live on bread alone, but on ever word that comes out of the mouth of God;” and in Deut. 6:16/Mt. 4:7, “do not put Yahweh your Elohim (Supreme Being/God) to the test;” and in Deut. 6:13/Mt. 4:10, “Worship Yahweh, your Elohim (Supreme Being/God), and serve him only;” and in all Scripture that He quoted he would never make a mistake when quoting it, and he would not be quoting the LXX, the Greek version of the Scripture, for translations are not done by ‘inspiration,’ God-breathed.
Moreover, Matthew, an apostle of the anointed One, and filled with Yah’s Holy Spirit, the Spirit of Truth, would not be reliant on the flawed LXX, a Greek version of Scripture, as he wrote in the Script of the Hebrews. Therefore, in Matthew 21:9, 15, he said, “Hosanna to the son of David!” (Save us son of David). “Blessed is he who comes in the name of Yahweh!” (See also Mt. 23:39). “Hosanna in the highest!” Psalms 118:26. And, in Matthew 21:42/Psalms 118:22-23, “The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; Yahweh has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes.”
Let us not overlook Yah’s word in Matthew 22:37-40/Deut. 6:5; Mt. 22:37 “’Love Yahweh your Elohim (Supreme Being/God) with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind’ (Deut. 6:5). 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself’ (Lev. 19:18). 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
After the Pharisee answered our Savior’s questions, ‘Whose son is the Mashiyach?’ and said, ‘David’s son,’ he asked them in Matthew 22:43-45; Mt.22:43 “How is it then that David, speaking by the Spirit. Calls him, ‘Adon?,’ for (in Psa. 110:1) he says, 44 ‘Yahweh said to Adon: Sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.’ 45 Since David calls him, ‘Adon,’ how can he be his son?”
He makes a valid point in Mt. 23:15, “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are.” A message for false teacher today!
The Father’s name is, ‘Yah,’ who is also the Son, Psalms 68:4, 18/Eph. 4:7-8, who functions with his Spirit Joel 2:28ff/Acts 2:17ff, referred to in Acts 2:4 as ‘Holy Ghost’ in KJV, and ‘Holy Spirit,’ NIV. Notice the definite article ‘the’ before the word, ‘name,’ in Mt. 28:19. That is why baptism is in the name of Yah, who saves! “Yah,” the Voice from heaven Acts 26:14-15.

I think if the people who read this Post: “In the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost,” also read your Post: “In the name of – a Study in Greek,” and read the comment which I have posted there concerning his eternal name, they may have a better understanding of the singleness (oneness) of his eternal name, which is the name of the Father/Son/Holy Spirit. Perhaps, it would have been better if I had posted that comment here at this post.
My hope and prayer is that they may understand why the definite article, ‘the,’ is used in front of the word, ‘name,’ in Matthew 28:19 because it refers in the singular to the Almighty Yah, who is the Father, and Messianic Son, who always functions through his Almighty Spirit, referred to as the ‘Holy Ghost’ in the KJV in Acts 2:4, etc.
It was His same Spirit that “overshadowed Mary” Luke 1:35, and also created his fleshly body in Mary’s womb, for there is nothing made, visible or invisible, that he did not make, cf. Col. 1:16. And in Mashiyach all the fullness of the Godhead/Deity/Yah’s Spirit (Holy Spirit) dwelt/lives in bodily form, Colossians 2:9. In that body and by His blood, Yah saves, for He is “the Almighty” Rev. 1:8, for he “was dead” as the Son and in the flesh, Rev. 1:18, but He is “alive forever and ever.” His human body apart from the Spirit “was dead” even though it did not see decay or corruption (Psalms 16:8-11/Acts 2:25-28), but His Spirit is eternal, and by which, or through whom, “he went and preached to the spirits in prison who disobeyed long ago when God waited patiently in the day of Noah while the Ark was being built…..,” 1st Peter 3:19-20. And, he led captivity captive in His train. Amen!
Yah is the Comforter, who, in the flesh, was dwelling with (living with) His disciples and apostles but, after He died and ascended on high and led captivity captive in His train, He lives by His Spirit in them as he promised in John 14:16ff, where the Greek word translated ‘another’ means, ‘exact same one,’ and certainly does not mean, a ‘different’ Comforter.’ Yah is the Spirit of Truth/ Yah is Truth! Amen, and he never gets His business mixed up for he does ‘Right’ in all things, “delighting to exercise his Love, Justice and Righteousness on this earth,” Jer. 9:24. Yah is the “Righteous Branch” of the seed of David, Jer. 23:5, and “This is the name by which he will be called, ‘Yahweh Our Righteousness,” Jer. 23:6. Therefore, he says, “I am the Root (Father) AND the Offspring (Son) of David,” Rev. 22:16. Amen! Hal-le-lu Yah!
