The Book of Revelation 20:14-15

Second Death

(Rev. 20:14-15 KJV) “14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”

After the final judgment, death and hell, and all sinners are cast into the Lake of Fire – the ultimate eternal punishment. They will be eternally separated from God, which is the second death. Anyone whose name is not found in the Book of Life will suffer forever in the Lake of Fire and will burn with eternal punishment.

THE LAKE OF FIRE

The Bible shows us what happens to those that are lost.

(Matt. 13:42 KJV) “42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”

(Matt. 22:13 KJV) “13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

(Matt. 25:30 KJV) “30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

(Mk. 9:43 KJV) “43 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”

(Rom. 2:9 KJV) “9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;”

(2 Thess. 1:9 KJV) “9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”

(Rev. 14:11 KJV) “11 And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.”

(Rev. 19:20 KJV) “20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone.”

(Heb. 10:31 KJV) “31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”

(Matt. 26:24 KJV) “24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.”

The lake of fire was originally prepared for the judgment reserved for Satan and the angels who followed him in rebellion against God.

(Matt. 25:41 KJV) “41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”

Satan, the antichrist, and the false prophet are thrown into the lake of fire, along with the before the “Great White Throne Judgment” (20:11-13). But because of God’s perfect justice, he must also condemn all others who defy him.

The NT church knew the consequences of in living in sin. This is why they preached with tears (Ac 20:19) and defended God’s Word and original message of Christ against all false teaching (Php 1:17; 2Ti 1:14

The eternal punishment is the greatest motivation for carrying the message of Christ to all the world. It should cause us to do everything possible to persuade people to turn to God before it is too late (see Jn 3:16, note).
