Everything You Need to Know Before College by Matthew Paul Turner is a Christian-based survival guide for teens that are heading to college. The book covers topics such as building friendships, managing your money, dating, adapting to different people and personalities, and being out on your own for the first time. The book does this and more while grounding the student in Christian ethics and building a Christian moral code from Scripture.
This book is truly a survival guide for going to college. It covers the opportunities, challenges, and potential pitfalls of college life, and shows how to overcome and cope with the situations a student is bound to come across.
Turner does a great job of explaining the realization of entering into college, giving students an idea of what they could be facing with professors, fellow students, and class workload. There is lots of practical advice on many topics including things like checking your grants and tuition, changing the oil in your car, dealing with a roommate, how to and how not to witness to others, how to get the most of your education without burning out, how to keep your religion in a secular college that’s determined to make you lose it, and so much more. All of this and more are found in chapters titled getting ready, relationships, lifestyle, education, wellness, money, involvement and fun, and miscellaneous.
This book is a wealth of information for those going off to college. As a parent with children that are approaching college age, I can highly recommend Everything You Need to Know Before College for both parents and students.
