Life Recovery Bible, NLT

NLT Life Recovery Bible – Hardcover

is a Bible with notes and features that are written specifically for people that are in need of recovery, or going through a recovery process. The notes are very applicable no matter what you are recovering from, including alcohol, drugs, or just about anything. It contains many articles and notes that are based on a 12-step recovery plan. The notes point out key elements from scripture that apply to the recovery process. It includes many helps and devotionals to build faith and confidence, and to help you understand your situation and how God can help you through it.

The free review Bible I received from Tyndale is (roughly) 6.5 x 9.25 in hardcover. It is made well and is money well spent.

The New Living Translation is very readable. I would recommend the NLT more for reading than study because it is a ‘thought for thought’ translation rather than a ‘literal’ translation, but as a reading Bible the NLT is great and it serves the purpose of this Bible well.

The text is very easy to read, though it is not red-letter. I’m not sure, but it looks like maybe an 8 or 8.5 point font. It contains bold headings within the text, which are really nice.

The features are what make this Bible really shine. Features include notes, 12-step devotionals, prayer devotionals, applicable profiles of Biblical characters, topically arranged reflections, prominent recovery themes, outlines, book histories, topical index, devotional index, book introductions, a user’s guide, and a 12-step comparison chart that includes the 12-step plan, help from the scriptures, and 8 recovery principles.

The notes are at the bottom almost every page, just like other Study Bibles, and are well written and appropriate.

The 12-step recovery system is based on the Alcoholics Anonymous system. The steps take you through the Bible to various situations that apply to the recovery process.

I really like the biographies. They include outlines that include strengths, weaknesses, lessons, and key verses.

There are two types of devotionals that link through the Bible: recovery principle devotionals that include topics such as love, hope, forgiveness, faith, and many others, and serenity prayer devotions. It is worth buying this Bible for its devotionals alone.

Each book of the Bible begins with a simple outline, introduction, and recovery theme, and ends with reflections that include many insights into the lives of the people and problems they faced.

This is an excellent Bible for someone going through recovery of any kind. It even has something for you if you are not in recovery, such as the devotionals and biographical insights. With devotional topics such as faith and love, everyone can find something helpful in this Bible. For someone in recovery, there’s nothing better. 5 out of 5 stars!

  1. I found the 12 Step devotions to feed my soul, exactly where i am in recovery, this is the best Bible I have ever owned, and the resources contained within are both inspiring and eye-opening! For instance, Step 1, study 1, on Hagar & her sense of powerlessness.
