The Book of Revelation 4:5

Lighting and Thunder

“And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices:” (Rev 4:5a KJV)

Lightning and thunder signify judgment. God is about to begin His judgment upon the Earth and unleash His wrath.

“And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast it into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake.” (Rev 8:5 KJV)

“And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.” (Rev 11:19 KJV)

“And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.” (Rev 16:18 KJV)

The Seven Spirits of God

“and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.” (Rev 4:5b KJV)

The Seven Spirits of God are in reference to the characteristics of God as a seven-fold expression of God.

“And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;” (Isa 11:2 KJV)

The Seven Spirits of God are also referred to as the eyes of the LORD.

“For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.” (Zec 4:10 KJV)

The Seven Spirits of God are not literally seven individual Spirits because we know there is one Spirit.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;” (Eph 4:4 KJV)

The seven Spirits belong to Jesus.

“And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.” (Rev 3:1 KJV)

“And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.” (Rev 5:6 KJV)
